What is a Director Identification Number?
A Director Identification Number, also known as a Director ID, is a unique 15-digit identifier given to a director of a company. The identifier will stay with the director for life, to help combat illegal phoenixing activity, increase accountability and prevent the use of fraudulent director identities.

What is the purpose of a Director Identification Number?
These changes are being introduced to combat illegal phoenix activity. Illegal phoenix activity is when a company is liquidated, wound up or abandoned to avoid paying its debts. A new company is then created to continue carrying out the same business activities without the previous debt.
It is important for all company directors to understand the new obligations of the DIN. Failure to apply for a DIN within the required time frame can result in both criminal and civil penalties.
